A proper archer's stance, and a clear first-person view
- Side-on to the shot. Raising a bow now turns the whole body side-on, with the shoulders along the line of the arrow:
- Standing: the hips and legs turn as well as the chest. The head turns back to look down the arrow.
- Walking while aiming: the legs keep walking where you're going and only the chest turns.
- Smooth: the turn eases in and out, and the bow comes up more gradually. The draw eases between the poses instead of snapping.
- The drawing arm no longer passes through the neck.
- The anchor: the string comes back to the corner of the mouth, so the arrow sits under the right eye. The fingers hook the string with the fist beside the jaw, clear of the neck.
- The elbow comes round behind the shoulder at the arrow's height.
- The string runs from the face down across the chest.
- The bow arm's elbow rolls out, away from the string.
- Everyone: the player, other players' copies and enemy archers (Bone Archers, the Huntsman) all use the same stance.
- First person: the bow no longer blocks the middle of the screen.
- The hold: the bow is held from your eye, down and to the left (about 18° off centre), and the arrow still points where it will fly.
- No twist: your body doesn't turn under your eyes in first person.
- Screenshots: (env
BOWS=id). It shows the draw in stages, the archer from six angles, and first person lowered, raised and drawn.
