The blood river runs through the ruins
The river's course:
- It breaks out of a black cleft in the cliffs at the far edge of the Hollow Ruins, under boulders, a weeping saint on the bank and a red glow.
- It winds across the open ground between the ruined courts, never through them, for about 85–155 m.
- It crosses the paved ways under stone bridges: low flagstone arches with crumbling parapets and end posts, walkable all along.
- It breaks through the Blood Mere's court wall (rubble either side of the breach) to fill the mere.
- Its route is planned by least cost on a 1 m grid:
- the cliffs and the courts are walls;
- following a paved way costs extra, so it crosses them squarely;
- doorways are off limits;
- a noise field makes it meander.
- It has its own names: The Red Hook, The Sanguine Net and others.
- It buys every fish and sells finer rods (a gravewire rod at Rare or better, plus a better bone rod and witchwood rod).
- Its lantern wards the bank.
